How to: Read Kindle books while charging on Vista nd Windows 7
I have not written for a while – it is a pity. I will try to be more active in the coming weeks and will put the start with a useful post for all Kindle owner
Today I got pretty frustrated as my Kindle’s battery was needing a charge, while I wanted to read at the same time. Generally speaking, there should be no problem, yet it is not so in reality. I am using Windows 7 and when I connected the reader to the PC and ejected the device by using the USB-devices management tool that is linked in the system try – nothing happened. The screen of the e-reader continued showing the “friendly message”, letting me know that I have to eject my Kindle from the OS while keeping the USB in, if I want to be able to read while charging…So what is the solution:
- Go to some Windows Explorer window instead and click with the right button on the device’s name.
- Select eject from the newly opened menu and that’s it.
For some reason it works like this, although the two “eject” options should be one and the same
Let me know if you experience any difficulties.

Thanks for this fix to a problem I have been trying to find a fix for. I know many people are having the same problem.
Most welcome
Huuge thanks for that tip! I’ve been sooo frustrated when the message stuck on the screen although I ejected the device through “safe” mode. Thanks a lot!
My friend told me about your site, so I thought I’d read it for myself. Very interesting material, will be back for more!
Huge thanks man. I was also very frustrated about this. Thanks for help!
I tried doing this, and it still doesn’t work on mine… :/
Hey,
For me this works for all but one of my PCs – the one with Vista, that does not have all updates. Maybe this is the reason (as I have read somewhere around the net). I would suggest that you update your system and try again.
Let us know if this helped.
Thanks so very much for a simple, and correct, piece of assistance! You killed an hour’s worth of frustration in a minute – well done!
Thanks! I’ve had my Kindle over a year. I’d given up on multitasking.
